At Cornerstone Capital Planning Group we work with investors looking for more accountability from their investment accounts. Our planning first approach gives you a true understanding of what is needed to meet your financial goals, and will help you align investment decisions with a strategic purpose.
Over the past 10 years, we noticed an alarming trend while meeting with investors who were already working with a financial advisor. There was a consistent disconnect between understanding the difference between owning a portfolio of investments and having a true financial plan.
Somewhere along the way, the term "financial plan" became synonymous with having an investment portfolio.
This meant that investors erroneously believed they had a plan just because they owned investments. In actuality, it is quite the opposite. Investment accounts should be the result of a plan, not the other way around.
Our approach is simple: We focus on planning before giving investment advice. First, we analyze your current financial situation in relation to your goals. Next, we build a step-by-step plan to align an investment strategy with your savings timeline. Finally, we use our OpenSource Investing™ platform to find the investment institutions that offer the solutions that you need.
Throughout the investment advisory industry there are built-in conflicts of interest between the advisor and the client. This is due to varying compensation structures and the absence of fiduciary standards for investment advisors.
At Cornerstone Capital Planning Group, our advisors avoid these conflicts by binding fiduciary responsibility with clients before making any investment recommendations.
Planning first, investments next: Investment strategy should be driven by a specific and numerically measurable end goal. Age-based portfolios and target date funds set a timeline on your investments, but are they aligned with the priorities of your investment accounts?
Our personalized online financial planning process is designed to meet your specific needs through direct collaboration with your advisor. This simple 5-Step approach will finally give you an investment strategy that has clear cut accountability.
No single investment institution has the answer to all of your financial planning problems. This is why Cornerstone utilizes an open architecture investment platform to find specific opportunities that are right for you. OpenSource Investing ™ gives your advisor the ability to evaluate hundreds of investment companies across multiple industries and design a plan that is truly customized to your financial objectives.
Through technology integration and video conferencing software, we have created a personal and immersive virtual planning experience that focuses on understanding YOU, before giving investment advice.
Over a decade of time has been spent perfecting an immersive online financial planning experience that is simple to use and offers seamless collaboration between you and your advisor. With the use of video conferencing, screen-share technology, and an encrypted file exchange, we have maintained the human element of an in person planning meeting, while adding an unprecedented level of convenience.
As a client, your financial advisor is a real person, with a real phone number, and a real email. They will have a personal understanding of your financial goals and concerns, and you will always have a direct point of contact if you need their advice.
Throughout your life, there will be many factors that can impact your long term financial success. Our planning first approach takes into account six key areas that are interconnected with your financial goals. Some categories will be more important to you now than others. However, at some point each key area should be addressed to achieve a financial plan that is comprehensive in nature.
Our financial advisors can be compensated in two different ways and this is dependent on the financial planning program you choose.
Cornerstone is a comprehensive financial planning firm, which means we build a custom strategy for our clients to achieve specific financial goals. When we decide to work together our advisors legally become your fiduciary from a financial planning perspective.
OpenSource Investing™ allows us to implement investment strategies for you with institutional partners such as Charles Schwab, Lincoln Financial, Allianz, and countless others. Since these investment companies have varying fee structures and investment terms we, as the implementing advisor, are compensated depending on the type of investment you choose. Some investments cost nothing to the investor but may require minimum in investment duration. Others may charge a percentage that is ultimately shared with Cornerstone. Prior to the strategy implementation phase, we discuss all costs associated with each investment type so that you may make wise and informed decisions.
At Cornerstone, our criteria for financial planning is simple. If you have a financial goal and a current investment account, we have a program for you. Each virtual financial planning program we offer caters to a different level of investment experience, so that you can choose a planning experience thats fits your level of readiness.

At Cornerstone Capital Planning Group we have taken the ambiguity out of financial planning. Our unique analysis and strategy offerings are intentionally crafted to make your online financial planning experience easy to understand and tailored to your needs.
We have taken ambiguity out financial planning by breaking down the components of a financial plan into twelve specific services. These services focus on either analyzing your current situation or building strategy towards specific objectives. Each service can have an impact on its own, but we encourage bundling multiple services together to create a plan that is comprehensive in nature.
Does your household have a strong financial foundation? Do you have ample cash reserves, proper insurance coverage, and know what you are paying in investment fees?
All financial plans require basic building blocks to be in place in order to plan for long term financial success. Through our Financial Foundation Review, we evaluate your cash flow to determine if you have ample cash reserves. Next, we audit existing investment accounts to quantify fees, risk, and historic returns. Lastly we evaluate your 'everyday risk exposure' to understand any needs for life protection, income protection, and potential long-term health care costs.
Do you know if you are currently on pace to hit your financial goals in time? Do you have a process to check if you are currently on track or off-track for retirement?
Through this online financial planning audit, we will show you where stand in relation to your goals. A Planning Checkpoint calculates the probability of success for your current financial goals, based off of your timeline, current savings strategy, & existing portfolio allocation. This will reveal whether you are saving enough for your goals and if your investments are targeting the proper return.
Do you know what it will take to hit all of your financial goals? Have you quantified how much to save each year, how much return to target, and the final amount you will need?
A Goal Forecast is all about setting targets and understanding what is necessary from your saving to hit financial goals over a period of time. Through this online financial planning analysis, we will quantify the final sum required to hit each goal as well as calculate the returns your savings should target each year to stay on track.
What would happen to your portfolio if the Great Recession of 2008 repeated itself, and how would it impact your goals?
Through this online financial planning analysis, we first show you the losses that your asset allocation would suffer during a stock market crash. Then we calculate 1,000 scenarios of market timing, post market crash, to see if you could still achieve your financial goals. This analysis will give you an understanding of how resilient your current retirement plan actually is.
From a tax standpoint, why do you save where you save? What if diversifying your taxes now could create more after-tax income for retirement?
Mathematically speaking, money grows more effectively depending on how it is tax categorized. This online financial planning analysis will help you diversify your savings by tax categorization to maximize your cash-flow savings plan. Through this process you will gain more control over how future investment distributions impact your tax bracket.
Are your annuity & insurance policies expensive & out dated? When was the last time you took a hard look at what you have in place?
The insurance and annuity landscape changes every year due to mortality tables, market volatility, and interest rates. Through this online financial planning analysis we can vet the marketplace to see how your existing products stack up against the current opportunities.
Does your retirement plan have contingencies in place to account for a stock market crash? If the market crashed tomorrow, could you still retire or stay retired?
A retirement plan that would not survive a market crash is lacking investment resilience. Through this online financial planning process, we will build you a retirement plan that has a contingency strategy for market downturns. A Resilient Retirement® is built to give you more control over the uncontrollable, so that regardless of market volatility, your confidence in retirement stays resolute.
Do you know if your old employer sponsored retirement plan is aligned with your current financial goals? What if the investment strategy is no longer appropriate?
A rollover lets you take back ownership of your money, so you can re-align your savings with your retirement timeline. The process of consolidating all those old accounts into one place has never been easier! A Simple Rollover® is an online financial planning tool that will get your money rolling back to you within a few 'clicks.'
Do you have a strategy in place to maximize your corporate benefits? How are you leveraging stock incentives, pension plans, or deferred compensation to expedite your goals?
As you rise through the corporate ranks, complex opportunities, like deferred compensation and stock incentive plans, become more readily available. Capitalizing on these opportunities is key to achieving your financial goals more effectively. A Corporate Benefit Playbook will show you how to leverage these benefits in order to maximize the impact on your financial goals.
Will your Required Minimum Distributions move you into a higher tax bracket?
The Required Minimum Distribution percentage from your retirement account increases every year after age 72. Why? Because the IRS is smart! An RMD Roadmap™ will help you plan ahead so you can flat line distributions, and enter higher tax brackets, only if you choose to do so. The earlier you draw your map, the more tax control you will have later.
Could your wealth become multi-generational wealth?
Building a Lasting Legacy is how we help you create generational wealth for your loved ones. Mapping out a multi-generational wealth transfer strategy gives you the power to choose how you are remembered. Whether it is for your grandchildren's college costs, your favorite non-profit, or anything else, a true Lasting Legacy evaluates safe investments that can turn new money into old money for generations to come.
Is your business ready to take its financial strategy to the next level?
Once a business becomes profitable it requires safeguards to be put in place that protect key employees & insure the business plan. Through this online financial planning analysis, we review your business's revenue to see how it relates to your tax deductible savings, employee plans, & buy/sell agreement. Then we will build you a playbook that prioritizes your cash-flow to maximize its value.
